Becoming Entirely His
Let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing
—James 1:4
Many
of us appear to be all right in general, but there are still some areas
in which we are careless and lazy; it is not a matter of sin, but the
remnants of our carnal life that tend to make us careless. Carelessness
is an insult to the Holy Spirit. We should have no carelessness about
us either in the way we worship God, or even in the way we eat and
drink. Not only must our relationship to God be right, but the
outward expression of that relationship must also be right. Ultimately,
God will allow nothing to escape; every detail of our lives is under
His scrutiny. God will bring us back in countless ways to the same
point over and over again. And He never tires of bringing us back to
that one point until we learn the lesson, because His purpose is to
produce the finished product. It may be a problem arising from our
impulsive nature, but again and again, with the most persistent
patience, God has brought us back to that one particular point. Or the
problem may be our idle and wandering thinking, or our independent
nature and self-interest. Through this process, God is trying to
impress upon us the one thing that is not entirely right in our lives. We
have been having a wonderful time in our studies over the revealed
truth of God’s redemption, and our hearts are perfect toward Him. And
His wonderful work in us makes us know that overall we are right with
Him. "Let patience have its perfect work . . . ." The Holy Spirit
speaking through James said, "Now let your patience become a finished
product." Beware of becoming careless over the small details of life
and saying, "Oh, that will have to do for now." Whatever it may be, God
will point it out with persistence until we become entirely His.
| I wish I could write about it. God continues to amaze me this summer. Perhaps one day I'll get back on this xanga.

| Well, I won't be home for three months. That's a fact that hasn't sunk in yet.
The arrival in Paris went extremely smoothly this time, even if the mad dash in Atlanta wasn't exactly stress free. But thanks be to God for working everything out (and even allowing me to be on the same flight as the group)! I greatly appreciated all the prayers.
The first day was long. I'm tired; that's about all there is to it. I uploaded the first round of pics on my smugmug for all to see.
The only noteworthy item on the agenda today was the 2 hour block we had to explore the neighborhood around our hotel. And while I'm on that subject, I think this is the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in. No joke. It's amazing.
Good night all--hopefully more tomorrow.

Is Your Mind Stayed on God?You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You
—Isaiah 26:3
Is
your mind stayed on God or is it starved? Starvation of the mind,
caused by neglect, is one of the chief sources of exhaustion and
weakness in a servant’s life. If you have never used your mind to place
yourself before God, begin to do it now. There is no reason to wait for
God to come to you. You must turn your thoughts and your eyes away from
the face of idols and look to Him and be saved (see Isaiah 45:22 ). Your
mind is the greatest gift God has given you and it ought to be devoted
entirely to Him. You should seek to be "bringing every thought into
captivity to the obedience of Christ . . ." ( 2 Corinthians 10:5 ).
This will be one of the greatest assets of your faith when a time of
trial comes, because then your faith and the Spirit of God will work
together. When you have thoughts and ideas that are worthy of credit to
God, learn to compare and associate them with all that happens in
nature-the rising and the setting of the sun, the shining of the moon
and the stars, and the changing of the seasons. You will begin to see
that your thoughts are from God as well, and your mind will no longer
be at the mercy of your impulsive thinking, but will always be used in
service to God. "We have sinned with our fathers . . . [and] . . . did not remember . . ." ( Psalm 106:6-7 ).
Then prod your memory and wake up immediately. Don’t say to yourself,
"But God is not talking to me right now." He ought to be. Remember
whose you are and whom you serve. Encourage yourself to remember, and
your affection for God will increase tenfold. Your mind will no longer
be starved, but will be quick and enthusiastic, and your hope will be
inexpressibly bright.
